3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-roading and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also more convenient to move and push than a four-wheeler, especially those with fabric sling seats or seat units that are positioned comfortably in the frame, offering the best lightweight 3 wheel stroller ergonomics and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled vehicles are very stable, and this makes them an excellent choice for off-road walking (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). These types of buggys typically have large front tires that are able to handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some even come with a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have lower center of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts which means they can topple over more readily. However, the most reliable 3-wheel pushchairs have an ideal geometry and design to ensure they are solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be able to steer using just one hand, and have the front wheel rotate 360o which makes them perfect for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. These are designed to work on tracks that are not paved, and are able to withstand dirt, gravel, rocks and other debris. It is much easier to push and is lighter to kerb-pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you'll need to do that as a brand new parent!).

Seating

There are a variety of alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. The carrycot that comes with it is ideal for a baby (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older infants and toddlers will enjoy the large and comfortable seat with adjustable ventilation. The seats do not recline fully, but they can be adjusted to the lowest position. This should allow your child plenty of room and headroom.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which offers the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame rather than sitting on top as a modular seat and this gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially on bumpy terrain or over curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with the obstacles.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this kind of buggy typically has some pretty useful features such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy-to-use brake pedal, and a few bright, game-changing lights that come up from the handlebar and can be positioned directly in front of the occupants to ensure their safety when traversing difficult terrain.

The lightest 3 wheel stroller-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and sturdy to push one-handed and is also ideal for handling rough terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler.

Tyres

She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to navigate cobbles and kerbs.

They can be difficult to maintain their inflation and must be replenished regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, so you should always have a repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be found on pushchairs as they are less expensive than tyres filled with air, but they are just as robust. You can identify PU tires by their smooth appearance and soft feel. They also slide well on even and tied surfaces.

If you run your hand over the tyres, you can tell if they are rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it's a rubber or PU. You can also confirm whether your buggy has PU tyres by slipping the tyres on an even, clean surface They'll roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are often used in high-performance buggies and Joggers due to their ability to deal with the rough terrain that's common to this type of pushchair. The downside of this is that the foam may expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable as it loses its springy nature. The tyres can also be noisy due to the fact that they create lots of noise when you turn and drive around the town.
