World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

For example an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item upgrader kit's current level. The cost rises with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items.
