French-door fridges combine functionality and form. They feature stylish double doors that reveal the large fridge on top, and a freezer drawer below. Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the best one. We looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series is geared towards the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This fridge has them all including a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs a premium, I expect higher quality.

Apart from that minor flaw however, this refrigerator is a great option. It has a large freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a fair amount of frozen foods in comparison to similar models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about the same as the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It also has a decent-sized icemaker packed into the left door, but it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelving in both compartments to create a custom storage setup for what you want to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting adds a nice accent. The in-door storage bins have a third shelf which can be folded down to store large items. The drawers include temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to open and close however I found the plastic's textured coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and allows you to manage your refrigerator from anywhere across the globe. It also has many options for customization. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked, when the fridge or freezer requires defrosting, and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice it GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill which is a feature found in a few GE refrigerators that allow users to set the amount of cups they wish to dispense. The fridge shows a countdown to reveal how much water remains but it's not as helpful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch french door fridge bottom freezer-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to appear like it's a seamless part in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer and two compressors to preserve food items. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient, and it produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is perfect for a single household or a kitchenette with an elegant design and top of the highest quality food preservation.

This fridge was rated as the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is essential to avoid the risk of a freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch has a reputation for premium appliances which is why it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your fridge from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is pricey however, it offers excellent features and functionality at a reasonable price.

While the fridge is an incredible appliance, it's important to know the limitations. You may need to get inventive with tall items since the fridge has a small shelf space. Additionally, the shelves are not sprillproof and can be easily stained or damaged by sharp objects. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a top counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage in a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door as well as two rows of shelves that capture spills, and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the great things about this refrigerator is that its Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it easy to move frozen ice to the fridge for use when needed. The freezer also has clever design features, such as sliding drawers that help you organize your items. It also comes with a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food items as well as a separate storage bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you control the fridge's temperature as well as lighting via your smartphone. It's a good way to control and monitor your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we test. This could be due to its larger capacity.

The other issue we have with this refrigerator is its doors. The handles with a sunken design let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they came with a front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those looking to blend the aesthetics of a french door american Style Fridge freezer-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which can make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door fridge used Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't cost a fortune this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a minimalist design that isn't as striking in appearance as other models however it comes with enough features to make it a good option. Its most notable characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items such as meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water and ice maker dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you redirect part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can keep food items that need extra attention. You can alter this feature using an adjustable slider that is located just in the middle of the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees. This is a good performance but isn't quite at the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. The fridge can be linked with a smart thermostat in order to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It does a great job of repelling fingerprints and streaks, even compared to glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
