Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet format of the previous albums. It was a more ferocious, consistent effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The edgier sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the growth of the band. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on previous efforts.
